- Business number
- missed-call auto-text with a link
- quote or booking form that asks for address + photos
Give the business its own phone number and text every missed call back with a link. Then put a quote or booking form on your website and Google profile. The cheap version is a second-line app, an auto-SMS app and a free form. Housecall Pro Basic sits in the middle, listing 24/7 online booking at $79/mo ($59 billed annually). At the top, QuoteIQ Elite at $299.99/mo adds an instant quote on your site plus self-scheduling. Whichever you pick, check the size of the job yourself before you commit to the price.

Every Missed Call Is a Quote for the Next Guy
"I can't just be yakking on my cell phone when I'm supposed to be working."
ShatterdayNight, PressureWashingResource forum, Feb 2018
That's a part-timer talking, but full-timers get the same call halfway up a ladder, and the bar is low. In 2019 a veteran told a newbie, "You'll be ahead of most companies if you answer your phone, return calls promptly." Shared leads are harsher, since an owner said in 2014 that HomeAdvisor "can be worth it, if you're willing to jump right on the leads as soon as they come in."
Homeowners agree. In a Housecall Pro-commissioned SurveyMonkey survey of 1,040 US homeowners (October 2025), "Nearly every homeowner says speed influences who they hire," and 80% said they factor online booking into their choice. Housecall Pro sells booking software, so weigh that, but the finding matches what owners describe.
Speed has a price too.
"I boosted a post early on & got barraged by flaky tire kickers all hours of the night."
TheWizard, PressureWashingResource forum, Nov 2021
Nobody answers every call live. What works is a system that replies at once, collects what you need to quote, and screens out the people who were never going to book.
From a Second Phone Line to a Booking Page
- A separate business numberWhen it rings, you know it's a lead, and you can let it roll to the auto-text while you finish the wall. squidskc wrote "Sideline. $70/year and I have the business line on my personal phone." That was a 2018 price, so check today's. His other advice from that thread was "Set up EVERYTHING on autoresponder and have a professional voicemail recorded."
- A missed-call auto-text with a linkEvery missed call gets a text inside a minute that says who you are and when you'll call back, with a link to a form. Ikii's advice was "Get voice to text service, and text them back." On Android he used an app called "Missed Call Auto SMS."Missed call → auto-text → form (address, services, photos) → you quote
- A quote or booking form on your website and Google profileThis catches the people who never call, like the 10 p.m. browser. A free form asking for address, services and photos is the minimum. Online booking comes next. At the top is an instant quote, where the customer measures the house on a map and sees a price, then picks a time.
Later, squidskc handed his calls to an outside service called bidslot and said "I love not having to field calls." Our sources don't give its price, so get a quote before you compare.
What Each Budget Buys
| Level | What you use | Cost | What the caller gets | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cheap | Second-line app, auto-SMS app, free online form | A business line app was $70/yr when one owner reported it (2018) | A text within a minute and a form to fill in | You still build and send every quote by hand, often at night |
| Mid | Housecall Pro Basic | $79/mo ($59/mo annual) | 24/7 online booking from Google or your website; review management | No satellite measuring found, so you still size the job yourself |
| Top | QuoteIQ Elite | $299.99/mo ($2,999.99/yr) | InstaQuote on your site (the customer can measure on a satellite map), then InstaSchedule to pick a time after accepting | The priciest option here, and customers can enter bad inputs (see below) |
As listed on each vendor's pricing page, October 2026. Jobber Core also lists online booking ("Book and schedule jobs online") at $49/mo, or $29/mo billed annually. QuoteIQ lists an AI call team on its $29.99 Essentials plan; we haven't seen how it handles a pressure washing intake, so check what it says to callers before relying on it.
Auto-Reply Texts to Paste In
Keep these short and ask for the address and photos up front, because you can't price a job without them and idle callers rarely send either.
Hi, this is {your name} with {company}. I'm on a job and can't pick up. Text me your address and what you want cleaned (house, driveway, roof...) and I'll send you a price today. Or request a quote here: {link}Thanks for calling {company}. We're done for the day. Reply with your address and a couple of photos of what you want cleaned, and you'll have a quote by {9 a.m.} tomorrow. {link}You've reached {company}. I'm probably on a ladder right now. You'll get a text from this number in a minute: just reply with your address and I'll get you a price today. After that it's an ordinary phone lead. Pull the address up on the map, check the size and price it from your sheet, as in quote without driving out. If the quote goes quiet, the follow-up cadence takes over.
Filter the Tire Kickers Before They Eat Your Evening
No address, no price. Sherm puts the reason bluntly, "When a caller just wants a phone quote I don't cooperate b/c they are just shopping rates maybe for a competitor." Make the address a required field on your form, and ask for photos too, since serious customers send them and the merely curious usually don't.
A line like "Jobs start at {your minimum}" turns away the $50 driveway hunters before they cost you a callback (see setting a minimum charge). Put reply hours in the auto-text as well. "Quote by 9 a.m." beats answering at 11 p.m.
Instant Quotes Work If You Check the Customer's Numbers
A window cleaner using ResponsiBid's website calculator reported "We closed 22 jobs on it in the past 12 months, $7724 in revenue," and said "people really like the convenience of not having to talk to someone." In the same thread, others had the opposite experience. One said customers "would have 40% or more windows than what they entered." Another wrote "I finally gave up because I just couldn't get it right."
Houses have the same problem, because customers guess square footage, forget the back deck and round down stories. Before you confirm any instant quote, check the size yourself on the satellite view or Street View, or in the county record. It takes two minutes. QuoteIQ's InstaQuote, where the customer measures on the satellite map, starts you closer, but you still check.
Then put "price confirmed on arrival" on every instant quote. If the job turns out bigger than entered, you show them the difference and revise before you start. The clause to paste is in remote estimates.
If you'd rather use ResponsiBid, its pricing page lists a free Startup plan, $179/mo for Scaling and $229/mo for Pro, plus a setup fee. We don't earn a commission on it.
Questions Owners Ask
Should I use my personal cell number for my pressure washing business?
Use a separate business number, even on the same phone. You'll know a call is a lead before you answer, it can roll to an auto-text and a professional voicemail, and your personal number stays off every Facebook lead.
How fast should I respond to a pressure washing lead?
Reply automatically within a minute and send the quote the same day. A forum veteran put it more simply. Answer your phone and return calls promptly, and you'll be ahead of most companies.
Is an answering service worth it for a small pressure washing business?
It depends on your call volume and the service's price, which our sources don't give. The veteran who outsourced his calls is happy with it. Start with a business number, an auto-text and a form, and add a service if calls still slip through in peak season.
Do instant online quotes work for pressure washing?
They work if you verify. Customers enter wrong sizes, and one window cleaner saw 40% or more windows than customers entered. Check the size on satellite before confirming and keep "price confirmed on arrival" on the quote.
