Short answer

Fence price per linear ft = height × sides × rate per sq ft

Published 2026 ranges put a deck at $150-500 and a fence at $150-400 per job (Housecall Pro). Per sq ft, QuoteIQ's calculator lists wood decks at $0.25-0.50, composite $0.20-0.40, wood fences $0.30-0.55 and vinyl fences $0.20-0.40. A 6-ft wood fence at $0.35/sq ft is $2.10 per linear ft for one side, $4.20 for both.

Homeowners think of a fence in linear feet, while price guides quote sq ft or a price per job. The only per-linear-foot figure we found lumps fences with gutters at $1-6 (HomeGuide's guide for pros), which is too wide to quote from, so you convert it yourself with one multiplication.

Price per linear ft (height × sides × rate). Columns are the ends of QuoteIQ's ranges: vinyl $0.20-0.40, wood $0.30-0.55. Cross-check: HomeGuide's $180-300 for a 6 ft × 100 ft fence is $1.80-3.00 per linear ft, one side at $0.30-0.50.

Quote Each Side as Its Own Line

Check the 150-ft example against the job ranges. One side comes to $315, which sits inside Housecall Pro's $150-400 and Angi's $90-500, and both sides at $630 land above either. The guides don't say how many faces they assume, but their numbers fit one side far better than two.

So don't bury the second face in a total the customer will hold up against a $300 quote. Give each face its own line and let them pick, and you stop looking twice as expensive (options instead of discounts).

QuoteIQ's MapMeasure Pro has a linear mode for fences that saves the drive, though one App Store reviewer said trees got in the way in wooded areas, and fence lines often sit under trees. Height comes from the customer, so add "price confirmed on arrival" and see the remote estimates guide for the phone questions.

Price the Boards, Then the Slow Parts

A 16 × 20 ft deck is 320 sq ft, or $80-160 at QuoteIQ's wood range, under plenty of minimums (Housecall Pro's range is $100-250). The money is in the slow parts.

  • Price railings like a fence. 40 ft of 3-ft railing on 2 sides is 240 sq ft of face, and spindles are slower than boards, so don't discount them.
  • Add your own time for stairs and skirting.
  • Charge your minimum when the numbers land under it.

As an example, at $0.40 per sq ft the 320 sq ft of boards is $128 and the 240 sq ft of railing face is $96, so the deck is $224, inside Housecall Pro's $150-500 range.

Wood and Composite Callbacks

Wood punishes pressure. Too close or too hard and you raise the grain (furring) or leave wand marks that look worse once stained, so go soft wash style at low pressure, let the chemical work, and price the slower, gentler rinse.

Composite is its own risk, and one post on r/pressurewashing is titled simply "Did I damage trex?" Read the board maker's cleaning instructions and note fading and scratches in writing, with photos, before you start (damage claims, pre-job photo checklist).

Tip

Offer stain or seal as a second option line, since a clean deck is prep. We have no sourced range for it, so price it from your own time and materials.

Questions Owners Ask

How much should I charge per linear foot to wash a fence?

Multiply your rate per sq ft by height and sides. At QuoteIQ's ranges, a 6-ft fence is $1.20-3.30 per linear ft for one side (vinyl low to wood high) and $2.40-6.60 for both.

Should I charge for both sides of a fence?

Yes, as a separate line. It's the same work again, and listing it keeps your one-side price comparable to other quotes.

Do small decks need a minimum charge?

Usually. A 320 sq ft deck at $0.25-0.50/sq ft is $80-160 before railings and stairs; Housecall Pro puts minimums at $100-250.

Can I pressure wash composite decking?

Check the manufacturer's cleaning instructions, keep pressure low, and photograph the boards before you start.
